SHOT Show Planning

I’m still early into the planning process for the 2014 SHOT Show.  I’m looking at flights, hotels, and budgeting for all of the activities when I am out there.  I’m also talking with some other writers about some of the best ways to coordinate this whole crowd sourcing style of reporting.  Let me just say that (1) I am excited about the plans I am laying down and (2) this is turning into a huge project!

Some of the people I have reached out to pointed me to the guys at GunsHolstersAndGear.com.  They have put together some really great coverage of the past shows and have already started a web page all about the exposition and how to get really great info while you are there.  If they run it like they did last year, it is going to be a great resource for news on new guns and other gadgets being shown.

When you can, go and take a look at the site above.  Let me know what you think.  Should I set things up for SHOT Show reporting like they have done?  Should I do something similar…or completely different?

Meanwhile, I am going to keep on planning on my trip and getting ideas on what to do from you guys.

By the way,  Del-Ton announced they are now selling three different configurations of lower AR-15 receivers.  Available as stripped, complete, and a complete lower with buttstock, these receivers retail for $120-240.  User options are available on the complete lowers.  I don’t know how many of you might be interested in new guns like that, but there ya go.  We should see these at the SHOT Show also.

Introductions…

shot showWelcome to the very unofficial blog covering the 2014 SHOT Show.

Before I say anything else:  this blog is not associated in any way with the annual firearms exposition sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF).  The NSSF is very careful to protect their name and trademarks, which is completely understandable.  So I chose to pick a domain name that is not directly related to the show.  Hopefully, this will keep us square with the NSSF.

So, what are the plans?

Crowdsourcing is an amazing technique that harnesses the power of the masses through the use of technology.  That is the technique we are going to try here.  The more of us there are looking, talking and asking, the more information we can get about all of the new guns, ammunition, holsters, scopes, knives and other gear that is being introduced in 2014.

Think about it – there is no way I can scour every manufacturer’s website, every forum, every blog or even attend every trade show.  But if all of us are working together, then we can bring all of the information into one place so we all benefit from it!

In 2014, the SHOT Show is essentially the kick off to the new year with all of the guns shooters can expect to see introduced in the year.  2013 has been a year of manufactures just trying to keep up with demand.  I expect we will see a lot of new models introduced in the next year, so this could be one of the most exciting SHOT Shows we have ever seen.  Time will tell of course.

I think it would be amazing to bring all of the gun enthusiasts together into a single place where we can all contribute what we’ve seen and heard about new firearms.  No single person or publication can do everything, or even more than a few things, well.  But if we had a few hundred people contributing, it would almost be like a Wikipedia for all of the new guns.  People can add things as they find them and it would be a reference for everyone who could not attend.

Stick around…more information will be coming soon.
