Folding Puzzles

On this page, you will find all my path folding puzzles. This is one of my favorite kind of puzzles, because with a very simple concept, you can make a very difficult puzzle.

Rubik's Magic puzzles

One of the most famous folding puzzle is of course Rubik's Magic puzzle. This puzzle was invented in1986. It's a very intriguing  puzzle, which consist of 8 square tiles connected by nylon wire. Because the tiles are connected diagonally, a magic hinge is created, which makes it possible to flap and fold the puzzle in the most wonderful directions.

In 2000 Rubik redesigned a couple of his puzzles. Instead of the black background and rainbow colored rings, he made the puzzle with gold rings and a bright red background. Although it looks not quite as difficult and professional as the old design, the puzzle isn't  less fun to play with. It may attract a younger public now, which is good for business and even better for puzzles in general.

The Rubik's Master Magic puzzle works the same as the normal Rubik's Magic puzzle. But instead of only 8 tiles, this puzzle has 12 tiles. These 4 extra tiles makes it possible to form more complex and more interesting forms. The solution however is not that more difficult. If you know how to solve the normal Rubik's Magic puzzle, you shouldn't need that much longer for this one.

Folding Beermat puzzles

A folding beermat puzzle is a small puzzle which consists of  16 triangles connected on the back side with cotton tape. the object is to make a good picture on one or sometimes on both sides. this puzzle is frequently used as promotional material. It is unknown which company produces this puzzle. But all 7 puzzles in my collection are printed in Holland.

the puzzle is not very difficult to solve, although if the puzzle is printed on both sited with the same picture, it can be deceptive.

Band-aid Paper Folding puzzle

The band-aid paper folding puzzle is a square sheet of paper, divided into 16 squares. The three vertical folding lines are cut in the middle. This makes the puzzle easier to handle and easier to solve.

The puzzle has 8 pictures, which can be put together. The pictures are divided into 4 parts, which are dispersed on the front and back side of the puzzle.

Although it's a children's puzzle. some of the pictures are hard to put together, of course there are also ease ones.

McDonalds Paper folding Puzzle

In 1994 the McDonalds Corp. promoted her restaurant with this advertising puzzle. The goal is to form 6 different pictures, by folding the squares to the middle.

This puzzle was made by Simon Marketing GmbH in Germany.

I've found this puzzle on the Dutch Cube Day 2001.

René en Stan folding-squares Book

René en Stan is a Dutch book out of a series of 12. This is number 5. This book was published in 1972 for children from 3 to 7 years to get familiar with numbers, colors and items.

The 4 folding puzzles are precut, so they can be teared easily from the pages. All pages are undamaged, so this must be a rare item. Although the puzzles in this book are very easy, it is fun to see how puzzles can be used to teach children things in a playful way.

Binary Arts Geo Loop puzzle

This puzzle is like a folding beermat puzzle, only instead of 16 triangle, this puzzle has 24 triangles. The segments interfold to create a lot of different shapes. It's fun and fascinating how shapes can be transformed into others. It's a nice puzzle, although after a while this puzzle will loose it's attraction.  From a two dimensional perspective, this puzzle can be transformed into about 30 shapes.

This is a puzzle out a series of two. The other puzzle is called Geomorph-12 and I'm sad to say it's not in my collection. Maybe you can help me find that puzzle too. You can contact me by email: maarten.vermaak@planet.nl.

This is all for now. More will be added as soon as I've expanded my collection with another folding puzzle.
